Is ChordSpell really free?
Yes. ChordSpell is completely free to use with no sign-up required. The site is supported by non-intrusive advertising. All features, including the Chord Identifier, Scale Identifier, Progression Generator, and educational articles, are available to everyone at no cost.
I found an incorrect chord or scale. How do I report it?
Please email us at contact@chordspell.com with the chord or scale name and a description of what seems wrong. Music theory conventions can vary between traditions, but we want to make sure our data is as accurate as possible.
Can I use ChordSpell in my classroom or music lessons?
Absolutely. ChordSpell is free for personal and educational use. Many music teachers use the Chord Identifier and Scale Identifier as classroom demonstration tools. Our educational articles can also serve as supplementary reading for students.
What instruments does ChordSpell support?
ChordSpell provides three types of visual diagrams: staff notation (suitable for any instrument), piano keyboard diagrams, and guitar chord boxes or fretboard patterns. Audio playback is available in piano, nylon guitar, and steel guitar timbres.
Is ChordSpell available in other languages?
Yes. ChordSpell is available in English, Spanish, Portuguese, and Japanese. The language is selected automatically based on your browser settings, but you can also switch manually. Note names, chord symbols, and scale labels are all localized.
Can I request a new feature?
Yes, we welcome feature requests. Send us an email describing what you would like to see, and we will consider it for future updates. Many of ChordSpell's current features, including scale comparison and the progression generator, started as user suggestions.
